"Seems like nothing out of the ordinary for a Saturday morning. A skeleton crew managed the station on weekends and Captain Holbrook was not expected in until Monday. Coffee was fresh brewing on a table near the doorway when Alex entered. He poured himself a cup and was proceeding toward his desk when Jaxon entered.
“Hey, Alex, I was just informed by the forensics lab that they are only open today until noon. Want me to take those items down to them?”
“Sure, let me put my coffee–“ Alex started to say when a loud thump could be heard that led to the violent jerking of their building. The lights flickered and went out. People were running or falling everywhere. Alex’s coffee streamed up into the air and rained down on those close by. Screams by a few women were heard as the rocking began to subside.
“Jaxon, are you all right?” Alex asked trying to stand up.
The room was pitch dark as the sun hadn’t begun to shine through the window blinds at this hour yet. He bumped into someone running passed and felt his way until Jaxon said “Ow” when Alex kicked his partner’s leg.
“Sorry,” Alex said pulling out his small flashlight. “Jaxon are you hurt?”
“My shoulder, I think it’s dislocated. I hit something on the way down.”
