Here is an excerpt:
Nathan thought about what Shirley asked, concerning the red planet hanging in the horizon. He was about to hop up the porch stairs when Jerod approached him.
“Hey, Nathan. Wait up,” he called.
“Hey, Jerod. What’s up?” Nathan asked, turning toward his friend.
Some of the guys are playing cards tonight. Want to join us?”
“Who are the guys?”
“Solum, Jason and Gothur.”
“Okay,” Nathan replied. He didn’t know Jason, much less anything about Gothur. “Did you notice how clear Ottopenda is tonight?”
“Yeah,” Jerod said, walking on. “Wouldn’t it be neat to go up there sometime?”
“Yeah, but with our studies and work, when will we have time?”
“We had time when we went through the pinnacles,” Jerod pointed out. “We just need to convince your dad, Robert, and ViTel. Especially ViTel. He has resources. Let’s bring it up at the game and see what everyone else would like to do.”
“Let’s wait until we get ViTel and my dad interested. No sense in getting our friends hopes up,” Nathan said.
It wasn’t quite his reason, but he didn’t want this Gothur to know right now. Something about the petrolian he didn’t trust. When the alien left their camp near the pinnacles before everyone else, it left them short a porter to return to Corelé. How he got through the pinnacles without those Bejahmif natives attacking him, made him wonder.
