Book Three in Review

I'm now reviewing my third saga before I send it to my beta readers. In this story my characters encounter the crossroads of life and where it will take them while on Earth. Alice visits her family only to find out someone is stealing from her cousins. The secret lies in the picture I created for the cover.
When learning of the hardships women and children had to endure during the 1930's, I decided to dedicate this story to them. In my first book, Similar But Not the Same, I alluded to the chance that we as a nation could have another depression. Using that scenario I wove this story around that concept. Though no one dies in this book, vengeance and greed still play their part in the twenty-fifth century.

I have found a better cover style that leaves the picture free of text. How do you like it? I had to make this cover for my book rather than a space theme because of the nature of the story. It is about a family mystery, still set in the future with my familiar characters.

I am resigned to use the first picture for my paperback cover because as you can see in the second picture I cannot get rid of those frame lines. By squishing my pic down to set between the boxes with a black background in my graphic software I hid of the frames.  It is still there even if you say Hide Frames. Has anyone figured out how to eliminate the frames?

Another slice of CrossRoads

In this scene, Alice decides to investigate something suspicious-note this raw writing and hasn't been edited yet:

Locating the antique shop, Alice proceeded down to the food court to get a drink, and then wandered back stopping to examine the glittering apparel in the windows. Sitting down on a median bench across from the antique shop she watched the passersby’s with their bags of purchases. She noticed that to the right of Lost Keepsakes was a shoe store with all the latest styles in the front window display; and on the other side was a large book store that prominently showed the latest best sellers. All the shops were joined together with the exception of hallways leading to the restrooms or staff.
Fake plants and trees decorated these median islands of rest from the constant stream of shoppers. Alice had a good view of the door into Lost Keepsakes as she pulled out her epad to give the impression she was reading.
Twenty minutes had passed when Alice spotted two men each carrying a large awkward package into the book store. One of the men was short and stocky, “Just like the man¬ Yes, it’s the same man from the Dallas Airport who bumped me,” she mused.
Alice was about to rise and see where the men went when the door of Lost Keepsakes opened. The owner, Jonathan Carri came out, locked the door, and walked over to the book store. He then entered and walked toward the back of the business. Alice jumped up putting her epad back into her tote then walked over to the display window. There she saw Jonathon follow the two delivery men through a Staff door in the back. She hurried into the book store and sat down in a small reading corner near the Staff doorway.
Even though it was closed, the raised voices could be heard.
“What is that doing here? “I have to make arrangements,” Alice could just hear a man say. While she held her epad close to her face as if she was reading, the door opened. She turned her back just in time as Jonathon stormed passed her without seeing her.

Since this story is leaning more to the family mystery I created this cover from a few pictures I have taken. This has not yet been reviewed so changes may occur in the final copy.
---
Exhausted and feeling hungry they stopped at a small restaurant near the food court that had tables set outside to mimic an outdoor cafe. Just as they sat down in one of the chairs, Mary saw a man approaching from afar.
“Oh, look, I do believe that appears to be Trevor,” Mary reported.
Andrea turned around to notice that Trevor Watkins was heading their way. “Oh I hope he doesn’t stay long, we still have a few more shops to check out.
“Your right, oh I haven’t seen him in ages. Is he my third cousin or yours?” Mary inquired.
“I think he is mine, but who cares. Ol’ Leroy had four children that became scattered when they grew up.”
“Well hello you two, fancy meeting family in this big city,” Trevor Watkins exclaimed taking upon himself to sit down at their table. He was a stout but firmly built man that operated a used car sales lot near the mall. He always seemed to be short of funds.
“Hello, Trevor and how are you and Gloria these days?”
“Just fine, well not so fine,” he said lowering his voice. “In face I’m on my way to the bank. I don’t suppose there is any way, Andrea, that your husband can loan me enough funds to pay my next two lease amounts?”
Andrea just looked at him. He has done this before to her and by being in front of Mary made her uncomfortable by being put on the spot. “
“Trevor, we may be comfortable but we are not rich,” she said with tact. “Is business slow this time of year for you?” She inquired throwing the question back at him.
“About the same, I was just informed that my note had been bought by another company and they want the debt paid earlier than I am able.”
“Trevor I’m sorry, you could talk to James, but I bet he would say the same thing. What will you do?”
“I’m hoping I can get the bank to extend me another loan.”
Mary ordered their lunches from the electronic menu embedded into the edge of their table surface.

The cover becomes a problem with Createspace as I cannot control where the title/author name goes.
